Job Purpose:

The Department of Transport and Public Works, Western Cape Government aims to employ a competent individual to be responsible for the implementation of registry and disposal procedures and processes, safekeeping and storage of current and terminated records. This post is based in Cape Town.

Minimum Requirements

Grade 12 (Senior Certificate or equivalent qualification).
Recommendation Registry environment experience.

Key Performance Areas

Opening of physical files, maintenance and tracking of borrowed files; Opening, sorting and distribution of mail internally and externally; Preparing mail to be posted by folding and franking; Responsible for the correct and neat filing of documentation, including maintenance of index pages in physical files; Assist the supervisor with the allocation of reference numbers; Handle client enquiries, requests and pending of files; Assist with the disposal of records.


A good understanding of the following: General support; Registry and archiving procedures and tasks; Application of relevant legislation; Communication (written and verbal) skills in at least two of the three official languages in the Western Cape; Proven computer literacy skills in MS Office; Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

Remuneration R 173 703 per annum (Salary Level 5)

Note on remuneration: Cost-to-employer (CTE) remuneration packages for certain occupation-specific dispensations (OSD), the middle-management service (MMS) and contract positions are inclusive of all costs related to service benefits or obligations including basic salary, 13th cheque, medical assistance, housing assistance, pension-fund contributions, etc. MMS remuneration packages are flexible and may be individually structured as prescribed. Where remuneration is not indicated as CTE, employees’ service benefits or obligations are funded or co-funded in terms of the applicable prescripts or collective agreements.
